Father's Reflections Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sep 7, 2018

Dear St. Paul Family,

A few weeks ago I was asked by a widow in our parish if I had ever thought about offering something here at St. Paul Parish for widows and widowers.  I thought this to be a great idea!  After some prayerful thought, I decided that we should have a day of reflection here at St. Paul for those of you who have lost a spouse, and perhaps are wondering, now what?  To facilitate this day, which will take place on Tuesday, October 23rd, I invited Fr. Dennis Saran who is the pastor of St. Dominic Parish in Brookfield in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.  Before entering seminary, Fr. Dennis became a widower, and is now a priest who knows the pain of losing a spouse.  If you are a widow or widower, or if you know someone who is, this day is for you.  More information will be coming out in the bulletin in the weeks ahead.

It is that time of year again to register your children for our Faith Formation classes.  If you have not already done so, registration can be done in person this week during regular office hours.  Please be sure to sign your children up this week.  It is very important to have exact numbers of students by the end of this week so that we can order the correct number of text books and materials.  We are also in need of Catechists to hand on the faith to our young people for 1st , 3rd, & 4th grade, and for small group leaders for our high school program on Wednesdays.  Please pray about whether the Lord may be calling you to this very important role.  If you are interested please call Maggie Melchior in the Faith Formation Center.  Parents are the primary Catechists of their children but we as a parish are here to assist you.

Our Fall Festival will take place the weekend of October 20
th & 21st.  Raffle tickets are now available for pick-up in the back of Church with your name on them.  A special thank you to Jacobs Meat Market for sponsoring the printing of our raffle tickets this year.  Tickets are $20/each with the grand prize at $5,000 once again this year and 49 other cash prizes.  We will only be selling 1,200 tickets so your odds of winning are 1:24.  We do have many more than 1,200 tickets printed but we only accept the first 1,200.  Please sell as many raffle tickets as you can to help make this year’s Fall Festival Raffle a success.  Everyone’s help is needed.  We only have six weeks to sell 1,200 tickets.  Also, we are now accepting donations of new and handcrafted items for our silent auction.  Donations can be brought to the parish office during the week, or can be given to an usher or greeter on Sunday.  Let’s work together to make this year’s Fall Festival a wonderful celebration for our parish.

If you have not made a gift to the Seminary Appeal Collection yet, please do so this week.  Your generosity in helping to form our future priests in the seminary is greatly appreciated.

This week, Wednesday, September 12th will be our monthly Disciples on the Way Holy Hour from 7:00 – 8:00pm.  This will take place in Church.  All parish families are invited and encouraged to attend this holy hour, especially if you have family members or friends who have drifted away from the Church, I invite you to come and pray in a special way for them before our Eucharistic Lord.

Have a Great Week!

Blessings,
Fr. Andy
