Embracing a Life of Discipleship - Bishop’s Appeal 2018

The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean.    Mark 1:42

Dear St. Paul Family,

We heard in our Gospel today, “…and he was made clean.”  A fresh start, a clean slate.  Don’t we all sometimes need a new beginning?  Jesus performed miraculous healings we hear throughout the Gospels.  He gave people a new beginning and demonstrated his power as the Son of God.  Many who witnessed or experienced these healings became true believers Embracing a Life of Discipleship.  Jesus was building disciples through these healings.

Catholic Charities continues this mission of Jesus today.  They help people create new beginnings.  Through the counseling services they provide in mental health, debt management, addiction, adoption and parenting support, and marriage and family conflict, Catholic Charities helps people create a clean start.

To help those in need, please make your gift to the Bishop’s Appeal today.  If you are able, I invite you to join me by becoming a member of the Crozier Society, or if you are currently a Crozier Society member to once again give at the Crozier level.  Those who give $500 a year or more to the Bishop’s Appeal are Crozier Society Members.  Members of the Crozier Society receive the Compass Newspaper, are invited to Mass and dinner with Bishop Ricken, and are a member of the Golden Circle here at St. Paul.  No matter what level you are able to give, please be as generous as you can with this year’s appeal.  There are many ways in which our parish benefits from the Bishop’s Appeal each year.

This past week you should have received your pledge card in the mail.  If you did not receive a pledge card in the mail there are pledge cards and envelopes available at both entrances for you to make your gift to the Bishop’s Appeal.  You can also give at the Bishop’s Appeal website at www.catholicfoundationgb.org/give.  Please respond as soon as you are able so that we can make our appeal assessment for this year.  In 2017 we made our appeal goal by April 15th, the earliest ever.  With everyone’s help we will be able to meet our appeal goal even earlier this year.  Please make your gift to the Bishop’s Appeal today.

Do you know that many employers make matching gifts to their employees gifts to the Bishop’s Appeal.  For Example, Kimberly-Clark will match any of their employees gifts to the Bishop’s Appeal dollar for dollar between $50 & $10,000.  Check with your employer to ask if they would be willing to make a matching gift to the 2018 Bishop’s Appeal.

This coming Wednesday is Ash Wednesday.  We will have 7:30am Mass and 6:30pm Mass on Ash Wednesday here at St. Paul.  Please also abide by the minimal penitential practices that are asked of the Church for this day as well as all of lent.  Stations of the Cross will take place every Friday at 4:00pm during Lent.

Have a Good Week!

Blessings,
Fr. Andy
